LAY SERVANT TRAINING

Lay Servant Ministries of the South East District of the Florida United Methodist Church will offer two classes on Saturday, June 14. The Lay Servant Ministry Basic Course equips new church leaders and renews current leaders. It is a foundational course for other training. Polity, an overview of the structure and organization of the United Methodist Church, is a qualifying course for becoming a lay speaker. RAINBOW ALLIANCE
STONEWALL PRIDE PARADE

Join the Rainbow Alliance and other allies within Christ Church and walk in one of the largest Gay Pride parades in the state. The parade starts at 8pm, and it's a beautiful "glow" parade with lighted costumes. We carry the Christ Church banner, hand out rainbow heart pins, and just show that Jesus loves each one of us. All are welcome to join the parade. Let Cynthia Metzger Phipps know if you are able to join us. The parade route is about 1 mile.

The Long Shadow is Director Frances Causey’s powerful documentary that reveals the connections between slavery, strong-arm Southern politics and the current racial strife in America. The film follows the former CNN senior producer, TED contributor, and Emmy-Award winning director as she traces her family’s legacy of white privilege, exposing her own family's history of slaveholding and how the institution of slavery continues to have an impact today. A remote discussion with Ms. Causey will follow the film. Popcorn and beverages provided.

Join Pastor Cathy for a discussion of famous spiritual classics, this summer
Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman. In this short classic, Thurman invites oppressed individuals to turn away from hatred and turn toward love. Dr. Thurman writes of Jesus who lived under Roman oppression and chose to live out his teachings daily in the face of the oppressive yoke of Rome. Dr. Thurman's book, written in 1949, was a favorite of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.Thurman invites us to love our enemies by practicing "mutual discovery." Through humanizing both the privileged and underprivileged, we are able to love everyone. Secure your own copy and read this 110-page book before the discussion. Where can you catch up with a friend? And grab a cup of coffee? Holy Grounds. Meet your friends before and after the 9am service and before the 11am service. Coffee will be ready about 8:45am, so you can meet your friends at the kitchen window and take your brew to worship. If you're worshiping at 11am, come early to see your friends at Holy Grounds.

Serve the weekly shared meals on Wednesdays 4:30-5:30pm. Volunteers are needed to wrap silverware, set tables, make tea, other prep work, to serve, greet and wash dishes.
